UCODE X: the next-generation UHF RFID chip for traceability and automation
UCODE X is a RAIN UHF RFID chip developed by NXP Semiconductors to meet the needs of modern product traceability and automated management applications. Global Tag will progressively integrate UCODE X into its product portfolio, alongside the existing UCODE 8 and UCODE 9, offering a comprehensive and state-of-the-art solution range. Compliant with the international GS1 EPC Gen2v2 standard, the chip is characterized by high radio sensitivity, low power consumption, and flexible memory management, making it suitable for adoption across numerous industrial and commercial sectors such as retail, logistics, pharma, and automotive.

Performance and Technical Innovations
In terms of performance, UCODE X sets new benchmarks by offering a read sensitivity of up to –26.2 dBm and a write sensitivity of –23 dBm. These values enable reliable reading even in challenging environments and on items such as cosmetics, food, or products containing liquids. Write speed is particularly high: the chip can program 32 bits in approximately 1.9 milliseconds, improving efficiency in tag encoding and initialization processes.
A distinctive feature of UCODE X is its flexible memory configuration. The chip supports multiple EPC and user memory combinations, with EPC sizes up to 208 bits and the option to integrate 32 bits of User Memory in dedicated configurations. At Global Tag, this versatility will allow us to offer customized solutions using UCODE X alongside our established UCODE 8 and 9 products. This flexibility enables the tag to be adapted both for standard identification applications and for use cases requiring additional data to be stored directly on the chip.
UCODE X also integrates advanced security and data protection features, such as access and kill passwords, permanent memory locks, and the untraceable command, which allows the reduction of read range or the hiding of specific information, enhancing consumer privacy protection. Features such as self-adjust enable the chip to automatically optimize radio performance based on the environment, while memory safeguard helps preserve data integrity during write operations.
In addition, thanks to its high sensitivity, UCODE X allows the use of smaller antennas compared to traditional chips. This results in more compact RFID tags and a reduction in materials used (aluminum and plastic), contributing positively to sustainability.
