Yesterday ended the Tor de Geants 2016, one of the most renowned ultra trail runnng race, that closed the current edition with amazing statistics:
- 330 Km
- 24.000 m difference in heights
- 828 participants
- 2.000 volunteers
… and HF/UHF RFID technology, used for participants checking and timing , in order to generate a live ranking, but also for security reason.
A challenge that has been won also thanks to RFID Kit implemented at Tor Des Geants: UHF Patchy and NFC Wristby .

Tor Des Géants – RFID Kit
Each participant was equipped with a Kit, in which there were the RFID tag Wristby, the monouse NFC wristband, and the Patchy, the silicone UHF tag to stick on the backpack to allow the involuntary reading at the moment of the gateway crossing

Tor Des Géants – RFID for Timing and Security
Global Tag implented RFID system at Tor Des Géants in order to make a live ranking and for security reasons

Tor Des Géants – UHF Patchy
The chosen tag for participants tracking has been the UHF Patchy, a flexible silicone tag, that has been applied on the athletes backpack.

The second tag used for participant tracking at the Tor Des Géants have been the NFC Wristby, useful for the smartphone reading of the tags.

Tor Des Géants – Involuntary people detection
With the UHF Gateway, the people was involuntary detected passing through the 3 antennas, without the need to stop at the checkpoint.

RFID UHF Gateway and NFC devices (smartphones) have detected more than 800 participants for timing and security purposes
